Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) are capable of causing serious damage, such as, miscarraiage,  birth defects, mental retardation and cancer, in the offspring of  individuals exposed briefly to minute amounts compared with the amounts shown to cause cancer. Not all EDCs are classified as carcinogens. Heavy metals, pesticides, plastics, solvents, and some other chemicals are known and suspected EDCs. Individuals may be exposed to these chemicals from contaminated food, water, air, synthetic fragrances, drugs, household and personal care products.
