A leak of 40 tons of poisonous gas from a pesticide plant on Dec. 3, 1984,
killed at least 10,000 people in Bhopal and affected more than 555,000
others, although the exact number of victims has never been clear.
Nothing is impossible, unless you think it is.
Paramahansa Yogananda
The contamination in Bhopal is a global issue, with wind currents
moving the poison throughout the world devastating everything in it's
path. It is a violation and rape of all life. We all breathe the same
air eventually. Dow accepted responsibility of UCC inherently. If Dow
can not afford to deal with this, how can the world afford to live with
Dow?

On
Anniversary of Bhopal Disaster, Group Calls on Consumers to Take
Action and Stop Toxic Pesticide Use
WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/
-- December 3, on the 20th anniversary of the Bhopal disaster --
the worst industrial accident in the world's history in which
a pesticide plant leaked toxic gas in Bhopal, India leaving at
least 20,000 people dead and over 150,000 people injured -- Beyond
Pesticides is calling for just compensation and clean-up for the
victims and an end to the use of deadly and unnecessary
pesticides. Today, Beyond Pesticides is releasing a guide, The
Safer Choice, and handbook for consumers who want to say no to the
Dow Chemical Company, which owns the liability for Bhopal. Dow
purchased in 2001 the company responsible for the disaster, Union
Carbide. The Safer Choice features what it calls some of the most
hazardous pesticides in commerce and alternatives to their use,
all produced by Dow, including the herbicides 2,4-D, clopyralid,
triclopyr, atrazine and picloram, and the insecticides
chlorpyrifos, and sulfuryl fluoride.

Bhopal is
well known as the site of the world's worst industrial disaster in 1984.
What is less well known is that a medical disaster of unmatched
proportions continues to re-victimise the gas victims to this day. |
