Light at the End of the Tunnel

The image shows the biomathematical simulation of a hallucination such as may occur during a near-death experience or under the influence of psychoactive substances. A combination of neural activation and inhibition produces labyrinthine structures in the cortex of the brain which, due to so-called "retinocortical transformation", give rise to tunnel-like images in the visual field.

The 1985 in the life called European Collegium for consciousness studies (ECBS) are a multidiscipline forum for the promotion of the research and exchange of experience in the area of the changed consciousness conditions.
Consciousness and its bases move increasing into the center of the scientific interest. Are frontiers and unusual experiences of special importance. For thousands of years they play an important role in the life of the particular as also in the cultural framework.
Newer research in the area of the unusual consciousness conditions, caused by psychological trips or psychoaktive substances, covers a broad spectrum of different science disciplines. It reaches from the basic sciences such as neuro chemistry, neuro physiology and Psychopharmakologie up to the Psychopathologie, psychiatry and Psychotherapie. The use of changed consciousness conditions has beyond that meaning in the ethnologischen context, in the religion psychology and in the creativity research.
The interdisciplinary dialogue contributes to understand unusual consciousness conditions more exactly to steer it better and to avoid their unwanted occurrence.
The ECBS would like to invite with "worlds of consciousness" to this dialogue.

The publishers:

Professor Dr. rer. nat. A. Dittrich, professor for empirical psychology at the University of Zurich, director/conductor of the psychological research institute PSIN in Zurich; stepped out by research and publications over etiology-independent structures of changed awake consciousness conditions, differential psychology and biostatistics. Its research was supported several times by the Swiss national rear. Publisher of the well-known book "Ethnopsychotherapie" together with Professor Dr. Scharfetter, Zuerich.
Dr. phil., Dr. h.c. mult. A. Hofmann, chemist and nature philosopher, discoverer LSD and pioneer of the Halluzinogenforschung, publications over structure effect relations of the Halluzinogene, considerably takes part in the clearing-up of the secret of the Mexican "charm mushrooms". Its book "LSD is most well-known - my concern child". Lately it stepped out by philosophical and culture-historical views over the meaning of changed consciousness conditions for the development of modern humans.
Professor Dr. med. H. Leuner, († 1996) ehem. Professor for psychiatry at the University of Goettingen, neurologist, psychiatrist, Psychoanalytiker; ehem. Director/conductor of the department for Psychosomatik and Psychotherapie of the University of Goettingen; Chief work areas: Application of changed awake consciousness conditions in the Psychotherapie; developed the Katathyme picture lives; Application of psychoaktiver substances in the psychoanalytischen treatment (Psycholyti therapy); introduced the relaxation therapy respiratory feedback; Book publications to the topics mentioned.
The publishers are members of the board of the ECBS.
