Remarks:- Gardenia jasminodes is commonly cultivated as a low growing bush or an indoor plant, it may grow up to 1.5m

Cultivation:- This plant needs a constant good light source to provide and produce many flowers. Bud drop is a common problem with this plant, it is usually occurs when plant isn't provided with enough light or a poor draining media is used. Flowers open white and fade to a creamy yellow over several days. Flower are highly scented which has given rise to it's popularity as an indoor plant. Plant needs a well drained media that retains some moisture. Use a media with a slightly lower than normal ph level about 5 to 5,5 is good. Plant grows best at tempertures between 15C and 21C

Propagation:- Seed can be sown at any time of the year as long as the temperature is around 15-20°C. Tips cutting are best taken in spring or autumn

Potential Problems:- Aphids, Melybug and thrips are common pest to this plant, if the plant is well cared for, these usually are avoided. White Oil can be used to prevent these pest if you have had them in the past.

Gardenia is edible: the light, cream colored blossom is good for garnish. In the Far East, dried blossoms are used in jasmine tea which is served in many Chinese restaurants in the US.
